On Saturday 28 May we met at Karaglen Superspar in Edenvale with Boksburg 17 for our Winter Knights drive with the main intention to collect food for the less fortunate this winter.
We donned our Rondels, set up all our branding and put on our game faces. At 10am we were ready to go and started welcoming the public to the centre with smiles and a message of hope for our community.
With our R1 initiative people were very receptive to what we were doing and with all our branding they were eager to hear what we were all about.
We also went up to Westpack and acquired some blankets. The idea was to “sell them” at cost price as a donation and use the cash raised to settle the initial purchase and hopefully pay for extra blankets at the end of the day.
So armed with our R1 coins, flyers and blankets the 4 Tablers began explaining what Winter Knights is to every passer-by and asking them for non-perishable food items and to buy blankets.
In a mere 4 hours the community of Edenvale had open their hearts and purses and donated 3 full trolley’s worth of food and donated an incredible R1600 towards blankets, which enabled us to buy a total of 60 blankets from Westpack.
We are finalising our plans to go out into the cold to distribute the food and blankets to those who need it the most.
Edenvale 63 want to thank Karaglen Superspar for allowing us to use their shopping centre for this incredible initiative. This is a relationship we plan on growing in the future.
Also, thank you to Round Table Boksburg 17 for their assistance in making this such a success.
And then lastly, and most importantly, a massive thank you to the community of Edenvale for showing up and going all out to support our own community. Without you we would not be able to achieve any of this.
Follow our facebook page to see your love in action as we give these gifts to those who need it most.
